What is a Discovery Source?

The means by which a user discovered / found a particular artist & song within the app.

Discovery sources fall into 2 categories:

LEAN FORWARD - during a user's discovery journey in-app, LF refers to user views originating from sources that demonstrate a user's intent to actively seek out a specific artist/song vs. passively browsing; viewing a Feels Music Message (Feels) from the following sources in-app all count as LEAN FORWARD:

  • Artist profile

  • Create flow

  • Search bar results

  • User Collections

  • User Creations

  • User Saves (Likes)

  • User Recents

LEAN BACK - during a user's discovery journey in-app, LB refers to user views that originate from programmed sources a user discovers simply through browsing; essentially meaning the user viewed a Feels Music Message (Feels) while browsing the app, as opposed to actively seeking out a particular artist/song. LEAN BACK sources include:

  • Homepage Carousel section

  • Homepage Featured Collections section

  • Homepage Trending Feels section

  • Discover (currently Search) categories section

  • YouTube Music Trending section (under the Create tab)
